Our fleet is no older than six months; compare that with cars on the road in Europe which are on average eight years old. But that's just one of many ways we keep our vehicle emissions low.

Meeting standards

We take European and international standards for emissions seriously.

• 46% of the vehicles acquired in 2010 were already compliant with the EURO 5 norm, a standard set by the European Union.
• 17% of the vehicles we acquired in 2010 had been given eco labels by their manufacturers (such as VW's BlueMotion or Renault's Eco2).
• Our average fleet emissions total less than 140g CO2/km.

Transparency

In addition to highlighting our green work on all Europcar sites:

• CO2 emissions data for car groups is published on our website and on all of our invoices.
• We encourage our customers to offset their carbon emissions.

Maintenance

When it comes to the maintenance of our fleet, we're always looking for new ways to be kinder to the environment. Current initiatives include:

• Water saving, waste and fluid recycling - We're gradually implementing water recycling and hydrocarbon separator units. So far we've equipped stations in Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Spain, the UK and Dubai.
• Green suppliers - All our service suppliers sign agreements that include clauses setting environmental standards for water, waste, fluid recycling, counterfeiting, ethics and toxic products.
• Auditing and checks on safety and quality - We've set up an organisation to monitor the safety, quality and environmental standards of our business, which includes undercover auditing.
